Obituary

Victor Zerr, 90, Harvey, ND died on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Victor John Zerr was born on July 2, 1920 at Harvey, ND. He was the son of John and Helen (Volk) Zerr. He attended country school and graduated from the Harvey High School in 1939. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for two years before moving to Twin Valley, MN where he taught school for a year. In 1942 he moved to San Franscisco where he worked in a naval ship yard. He returned to Harvey in 1945 and farmed with his father. Victor married Lena Ripplinger on July 22, 1946 at Selz, ND. They farmed near Harvey until he returned to the University of North Dakota in 1956 and received his Bachelors degree. They moved to Lansford where he taught from 1959 to 1968. He again furthered his education by receiving a grant and returned to UND where he obtained his Masters Degree in Science. They returned to Harvey where he taught at the Harvey High School from 1969 until retiring in 1985. He farmed during the summer months for most of his adult life.

Victor was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree Member, past Financial Secretary, Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus Council in Harvey. He served for eight years as a Wells County Commissioner and was a member and Secretary of the Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey. He also served as a school accreditation member.

Victor's hobbies included woodworking and fishing. He loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in school and sporting events. Victor participated in fast pitch softball as a young man and played on an area team that won the North Dakota State Title.

Victor is survived by his wife, Lena of Harvey; three sons, Victor Jr. (Debbie) Zerr of Harvey, Mike (Bonny) Zerr of Cottage Grove, MN, Alton Zerr of Harvey; two daughters, JoAnn (Sherwood) Nutz of Mandan, Connie (Steve) Little of Ponca City, OK; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Tollerud of Esmond and Lucille Wiedmeier of Harvey.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marian McIntee.
