On February 9, 2025, Vernon Wangen, was welcomed into heaven at the age of 59, due to heart failure.

He grew up in Harvey, North Dakota and graduated with the Class of 1984.  After high school, he attended Bismarck State College and then he joined the Army National Guard, where he served until 1992 with deployment in Panama, earning the rank of Sergeant. He then made his home in Fargo, ND where he served as a loan officer in the banking profession, along with program manager at Innovative ND, and part of the NDSU Research & Technology Park, until his passing.

Vernon enjoyed volunteering for numerous groups, including coaching the chess club students at Horace Mann Elementary school, volunteering at the Red River Valley Zoo, the community garden, as well as many political campaigns. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. He also enjoyed bartending at The Box in Fargo for many years and really loved all his patrons. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his buddy (puppy) Jaxson.  He also loved playing billiards with his nephews.

Vernon will always be remembered for his quick wit and his smirky smile after he told one of his jokes.  His journey on this earth was one marked by love and laughter and his passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends.

He leaves behind his siblings, Audrey (Larry) Toso, Floyd Wangen Jr, Lonnie (Michele) Wangen and Doreen (Daryl) Brandt; and his nieces and nephews: Kayla Toso, Steven (Amy) Toso, Chelsea (Will) Partlow, Devon (Heather) Wangen, Dylan Brandt, Dallas Brandt, Alex Wangen and Nicholas Wangen, as well as 5 great nieces Brooklyn, Eliose, Emberlyn, Freya and Felicity.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Vaughn Wangen; his grandparents, Marvel and Inga Wangen and Adam and Katharina Schmidt; as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

The Celebration of Life/Memorial Service to honor the life of Vernon will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at West Funeral Home (321 Sheyenne Street, West Fargo, ND 58078). Visitation will be held one hour prior, from 2:00p.m.- 3:00p.m.  Visitation we be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Graveside services, will be held at the Hillsdale Cemetery rural Harvey on Monday, February 17, at 3:00 p.m.
