Obituary

Rev. Vernon Schneider, 90 of Goodrich died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at a care facility in Bismarck, ND.  Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Goodrich, ND on Saturday, May 5 at 2:00 PM.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and internment at the Goodrich City Cemetery.

Vernon was born on Sept. 25, 1927 in rural Goodrich to Martha (Weber) and Karl Schneider. After high school graduation in 1945 he entered the Merchant Marines at the end of WWII.  In 1948 he married Geraldine Bauer. They farmed and ranched in the Goodrich/Hurdsfield area, along with auctioneering at local livestock barns and household sales. After the death of their daughter, Georgiana, Vernon felt God calling him into full-time ministry.  He graduated from Valley City State College in 1969 and later from Sioux Falls NAB  Seminary in 1972.  He came back to Goodrich where he was ordained in his home church.  He served as a pastor in the Venturia Baptist Church, Rosenfeld Baptist Church, Cathay Baptist Church, Mercer Baptist Church, and provided pulpit supply for many other area churches. Waking early in the morning, his grandchildren often found him studying his Bible and preparing his sermon before beginning his day on the farm. He retired from the ministry at the age of 79. He also enjoyed teaching German and history at Goodrich,  Hurdsfield, and Harvey High Schools while always continuing to farm and raise cattle. Every day he would tell you how greatful no matter his present circumstances.

In April of 2014 his beloved wife passed away and he began to yearn for his heavenly home. With health failing, Vernon spent his final years visiting with friends and neighbor while a resident at assistant living in McClusky and the Baptist Home in Bismarck.

He is survived by his children, Genadean (Terry) Holland of Bismarck; Julie (Darrell) Hartman, and Vernel Schneider both of Goodrich; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Karen Benson of Kenmare and Kerrine (Jim) Oshanyk of Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Geraldine, daughter Georgianna, two infant sons John and Vernal;  brother Irvin Schneider and brother-in-law Monty Benson.
