Vernon Peterson, 90, Turtle Lake formerly of the McClusky and Mercer areas died Sunday, July 4, 2021 at the Turtle Lake Hospital.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10 at the McClusky Community Center.  Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rosehill Cemetery, Wilton, ND.  Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Vernon was born on February 21, 1931 near Wilton, ND to Adolph and Ellen (Carlson) Peterson.  He grew up and attended rural school in the painted woods area southwest of Wilton.  Vernon and his brothers Clarence and Donald purchased farmland north of Mercer when they were young men.  They became partners and the operation was known as Peterson Brothers Farms.  He learned to play the accordion and entertained family and friends.   He lived on the family farm and never married.  Vernon moved into McClusky in 2014 and a few years later into the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky.  In 2020 he entered the Turtle Lake Community Hospital where he resided until his death.  Vernon's hobbies included traveling, playing his accordion and crop tours.

Vernon is survived by his sister, Edna Jane (Gerald) Assel of Mandan; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence and Donald; sisters, Doris Buchholtz and Ruth Swenson.
