Verna Ruth Zerr, 88, of Martin, ND, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Harvey St. Aloisius Medical Center.
Funeral mass will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey on Tuesday September 24, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey.
Prayer services will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery of Mandan on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
Verna was born November 16, 1924, to Edwin and Elizabeth (Reiger) Kost in Harvey, ND. Verna lived in Martin, ND, until she moved briefly to Washington State to work in the Ship Yards during WWII. She missed family and North Dakota terribly so she moved back and married Joseph Zerr on June 3, 1948 in Harvey. They eventually settled on Verna's family farmstead northeast of Martin. Verna loved to keep busy and she was a hard working farm wife who loved to cook, bake, clean and garden.
Verna was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey and Veterans Of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Harvey.
Verna is survived by her children; son, Glen Zerr of Martin, ND; son-in-law, John Laubacher of Burlington, ND; daughter, Kathy Zerr of Spearfish, SD; and son, Kelly and his wife Arlene Zerr of Story City, IA. Verna is also survived by three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great grandson. Verna was preceded in death by her husband, her loving daughter, Yvonne Laubacher; parents; brothers, Tony, Harry, Benjamin, Eddie, Ervin and Leonard; sister, Laura Davis.
