Vearl Vivian Hagen, 102, Goodrich, ND died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey, ND.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich, ND.

Burial will held in the spring in the Goodrich City Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND on Friday Dec. 27 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Vearl was born on March 23, 1911 on a farm north of Goodrich, ND. She was the daughter of Thomas and Marie (Stoltenberg) Brakel. She grew up on the family farm north of Goodrich and attended rural school. She helped out on the family farm while growing up. Vearl married Morris Hagen on October 24, 1933 at McClusky. She helped out her husband and sons, taking a major part in milking the cows and doing the chores around the farm yard. Morris died November 23, 1979. Vearl continued to live on the farm with her sons, Donald and Jonathon until October 2007 when she moved to the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey after breaking her hip.

Vearl was an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church and was a member of the ELCA. She was a member of the Goodrich American Legion Auxiliary for over 65 years and the Sheridan County Historical Society for over 22 years. Vearl had the usual hobbies of gardening and baking but later showed her artistic side painting pictures.

Those sharing in Vearl's life are her two sons, Donald and Jonathon both of Goodrich, ND; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Sauter of Goodrich; brother, Thomas Brakel of Blooming Grove, TX; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vearl was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Doris Jean Heinle; brothers, Orval, Garvin, Arley, Clarence and Raymond Brakel.
