Troy was born June 23, 1967 in Minneapolis, MN. He spent most of his childhood growing up in McClusky.
He graduated from the HVAC program at Bismarck State College. Troy married Lauri Lauer on October 1, 1988 in McClusky, which was the best day of his life. They spent the first 12 years of their life together in Fridley and Ham Lake, MN. They moved to Bismarck in 1999. Troy was currently employed by Northern Plains Heating and Air as a Commercial Estimator.
Troy's passions in life were fishing and hunting. If he wasn't doing one or the other, he was wishing he was. He loved to share his love of the outdoors with his family and friends. Many 1st deer, 1st fish, and 1st birds were harvested under his guidance and enthusiasm. It was often tough to tell who was more excited Troy or the one whose accomplishment they were celebrating.
He also enjoyed softball until he got too old and had to switch to golf. Pitching his team (when he had never pitched before) to a 1st place win at the McQuade's softball tournament with a team he was so proud to be a part of was the highlight of his softball career.
Because he never got to be a Dad to his own children, he channeled that need to "father " into being a wonderful uncle and Billet Dad to all of the hockey players that lived with him. "His kids" were a great source of fun, joy, and pride. He couldn't have loved them more even if they had been his own.
Although he would have much rather been a professional trapper, he always said if he had to have a job, being a "tinner" was a pretty good one. He has been surrounded by many people in the industry that were a pleasure to work with. He was respected for his character and integrity and the way he treated the guys that worked for and with him.
For the past 32 years (27 of those as his wife) Troy's best friend, soul mate, and the love of his life has been right there by his side. They cheered each other's successes, supported each other when things got tough, rejoiced with each other when things were good, and lived life without regrets. They were blessed, beyond words, with the things that truly matter in life: a family that loved them unconditionally; friends they could count on no matter what; a good fishing boat; and access to land to hunt on. He never really needed more than that.
Those blessed to have shared in his life are his wife Lauri and their dog, Maggie, his mother and father-in-law, Lloyd and Jan Lauer, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Perry & Cecilia Lauer, Sheila & Patrick Faul, Brendon & Stacy Lauer, and Corey and Melissa Lauer. His parents, David Hanson and Ellen (Craig) Stricker, and his sister, Beth. His nieces and nephews Joshua and Jonathon, Chantal, Hannah, Chance and Jewel, Nathan and Ian, Hunter and Hayden, Wyatt and Kindra.
On Sunday he was greeted in heaven by his infant children Harley and Letitia, and his grandparents, Leonard and Helen Hanson, Dorothy, Roy, and Leona Kensmoe, Bill Corey, and his dogs, Molly and Jolene.
