Obituary

Thomas J. Theige, 64 of Harvey, ND died Friday, November 27, 2015 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey after a brief hospitalization.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 1 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 30 at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

Thomas Jacob Theige was born on February 20, 1951 in Harvey, ND. He was the son of Marvin H. and Inga (Johnson) Theige. He grew up in Harvey and was passionate about sports. He participated in football and wrestling at the Harvey High School and played Legion baseball during the sommer months. He was picked by his teammates as the "Hardest Worker" on the 1969 Harvey Hornet Wrestling Team. He graduated in 1969 and attended Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake from 1969 to 1971. He earned All State First Team honors as a Lake Region Royal on the Mon-Dak Junior College Baseball Team.

Tom served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1971 to 1977.

Tom worked at the Harvey Herald from 1973 to 1975, as an orderly at the Heart of America Hospital in Rugby from 1975 to 1976, as a director's assistant at the Hertz Funeral Home in Harvey from 1976 to 1982. He served as the Sunnyside Cemetery Sexton and Caretaker from 1970 to 1984 and owned and operated a grave digging service from 1976 to 2002.

He began working at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in 1982 as a CNA and retired in early 2015 for health reasons. While working at St. Aloisius he was recognized with the "Angel Of The Month" award. Tom worked the p.m. shift for most of his years at St. Aloisius.

Tom's interests included being an avid Harvey Hornet fan. He was passionate about working out and participated in the Prairie Rose State Games where he won bronze medals in the 5 K run and the 100 meter dash.

Tom's pets were his "bird family", Brewster, Spike and Skeezix. Pet birds Scooter and Punky passed away in the last few years

Tom is survived by his brother, Howard (Evelyn) Theige of Moorhead, MN; and nephews David and Michael; niece Teri; St. Aloisius Nursing Home family.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
