Terry Kost, 71, Harvey, ND, died on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Cornerstone Community Church, North Campus, Harvey, ND. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m to 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Terry was born June 7, 1952, in Eureka, SD to Edwin and Ella (Delzer) Kost. He grew up on the family farm near Ashley and attended school there, graduating from high school in 1970. He then attended Valley City State University and graduated in 1974 with a degree in business office education. After graduating he remained in Valley City, ND but commuted to Fingal, ND where he taught a high school business class. Terry took a brief hiatus from teaching and was offered a regional manager position and traveled among the Gibson Store network in the Midwest region. In 1977 he accepted the business education teaching position in Harvey. He was also the FBLA advisor. He married Sue Steffen on July 25, 1992, in Grand Forks, ND. He retired from teaching in 2006 but continued to drive the school bus for the Harvey district for over 40 years until becoming ill several weeks ago.
Terry spent his life cattle ranching near either Ashley or Harvey, tending to his herd and making hay. Terry was a passionate gardener. He was known for his gardening skills and providing the finest produce in appearance, variety, and quality at the Harvey Farmers Market. Terry also worked at Dale's Radiator & Repair in Harvey during the winter months. Terry enjoyed riding his motorcycle between Harvey and his farm home. If time permitted between tending to his cattle or garden, he enjoyed fishing. Terry attended the Cornerstone Community Church.
Terry is survived by his wife, Sue; daughter Kaitlyn Kost of Park River; brothers, Delbert (Sheri) of Bismarck, Gerald (Sharon) of Sioux Falls, SD, Curtis (Jill) of Valley City; numerous nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by his parents .
