Sylvia Dale, 93, Harvey, ND died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND

Sylvia was born on November 20, 1920 at Wildrose, ND. She was the daughter of Gabriel and Malene (Orrestad) Sondersen. She grew up in Stanley and graduated from high school there. Sylvia enrolled at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Home Economics. After graduating she taught in Minnesota for two years. Sylvia was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Dale on August 19, 1945 at Williston, ND. They lived in Hunter, ND where Dick taught school. They also lived in Carrington, Hunter and Mankato, MN where Dick held positions at Gambles Hardware Stores. They moved to Harvey in 1951 and owned the Gambles Hardware Store there retiring in 1981. Sylvia taught Home Economics and English at the Anamoose High School for ten years. Sylvia and Dick enjoyed spending ten winters in Arizona.

Sylvia was a member of the First Lutheran Church, its Bible study group and served in leadership roles in the Sunday school programs. She was also a member of and past president of the ELCW. Sylvia was member of the St. Aloisius Hospital Auxiliary for many years.

Sylvia is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald Dale, Atlantic, Iowa, Douglas and Dawn Dale, Federal Way, WA; daughter and son-in-law, Valorie and Christopher Xenakis, Cortland, NY; four grandsons, Paul Xenakis, Mark Xenakis, John Xenakis, Reid Dale; six step grandchildren; four nieces, Charlotte Lawson, Pauline Smith, Deloris Melby and Vickie Sondersen; nephew, Greg Sondersen.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband on December 24, 2003; brother, Sigurd Sondersen; sister, Elma Matson; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Dale.
