Obituary

Shirley Mae Nitz, 75, Anamoose, ND died Friday, October 16, 2020 after a one year battle with pancreatic cancer at her home near Anamoose. Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 20 at the St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church, Anamoose, ND.  There will be a public visitation Monday beginning at 5 p.m. with a rosary/vigil prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at the church also following recommended McHenry County occupancy limits of 50.

The graveside service will follow the funeral mass with relatives and friends invited to the Nitz farm for a time of fellowship after it.  CDC recommendations of wearing masks, hand sanitizing, maintaining social distancing and staying away if ill are encouraged.

Shirley was born on January 24, 1945 in Harvey.  She was the daughter of Elmer and Lillian (Hase) Zuehlsdorf.  Shirley attended school in Anamoose, Drake and graduated from the Martin Public School in 1963.  After high school she received her Diploma from Minot Business College.  She worked at American Bank and Trust in Minot.  Shirley married William Nitz on November 6, 1965 in Anamoose.  They farmed on the Nitz homestead where they currently resided.

Shirley was very active in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society, taught religious education and served as the Secretary for church cemetery.

She was involved in many organizations including the Ideal Homemakers Club, McHenry County Homemaker Officer and McHenry County election worker, Anamoose Area Community Foundation, Relay For Life, and officer of the 75 th and 100 th Anamoose anniversary celebrations.

Shirley is survived by her husband Bill of Anamoose, ND; sons, Scott (Kim) of Harvey, Kelly (Kris) of Harvey; daughter, Marla (Rick) Erickson of Velva; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; sisters-in-law Fran Prom and Jane Nitz.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Darlene Haugen and infant sister Laverne.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery or the Harvey Public Library.
