Shirley Jean Jorgensen, 82, McClusky, ND died Sunday October 27, 2013 after being injured near her rural farm home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 1 at St. John's Lutheran Church, McClusky.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Burial will be in the McClusky City Cemetery.
Shirley was born on October 20, 1931 on the family farm near Pickardville, ND. She was the daughter of George J. and Mildred M. (Diggins) Schell. She grew up on a farm south of John's Lake. Shirley attended school in McClusky and graduated from the McClusky High School in 1949. Shirley married Norman F. Jorgensen on April 20, 1952 in McClusky. They lived on a farm south of Pickardville and later moved to the farm where she currently resided southwest of McClusky. Norman died on November 10, 1971. She continued to farm for several years and was managing the farm at the time of her death.
Shirley served as secretary for the Sheridan County Agent before being elected as the Sheridan County Treasurer from 1983 to 1999. She served as a Sheridan County Commissioner from 2001 to 2008 and was currently serving as the Sheridan County Tax Assessor, a position she held since 1989. She was currently serving as the Pickard Township Assessor and as Chairperson of the Wells Sheridan Aging Council.
Shirley was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was baptized, confirmed and married there. She was currently the church organist, a position she held for over 30 years. She was a member of the LWML and past officer, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent. Shirley enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and other hand crafts.
Shirley is survived by one son, Keith Jorgensen of McClusky; one daughter, Alice (Wayde) Schatz of Fullerton, CA; two grandsons, Ryan (Joanne) Schatz and David (Amy) Schatz; four great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, Ryleigh, Aiyana and Derek; sister, Marilyn Gessele of Bismarck; sister-in-law, Clara Schell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gladys and Bruce Jorgenson; brother-in-law, Ed Prince.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Jaimie Kay Schatz; three brothers, Arnold Schell, Duane Schell and Marvin Schell.
