Sharon Ann Blumhagen was born in Mandan, ND on Sept 14, 1943, to Kasper and Caroline (Geiger) Zander. She grew up on a farm northwest of Mandan. She attended country school at Crown Butte #6 and Mandan High School graduating in 1962. While in high school she stayed with her aunt and uncle in Mandan and went home to the farm on the weekends. After high school she worked various jobs and lived in Oregon for a few years. After moving back to ND, she met Jerome Blumhagen. They were married June 25, 1976, in Drake ND. They resided on a farm 2 miles west of Harvey. Sharon helped on the farm and raised 5 children. She loved her huge garden and flowers. Sharon worked for the telemarketing center in Fessenden for several years and at age 55 obtained her ND Life and Health Insurance License. She and Jerome moved off the farm and into Harvey in 2009. In later years she worked at 2 local grocery stores, then for Wells Sheridan Senior Center as a receptionist. Sharon taught Sunday school for many years and volunteered as a 4H leader. She was an excellent cook and baker. Sharon was very talented, and her hobbies included collecting as many plants as she could, along with angel figurines, creating beautiful oil paintings, crocheting intricate dresses for dolls, making afghans for all her children, quilts for her grandchildren and recently coin collecting. Her favorite hobby was genealogy. She was extremely proud she could trace her ancestors back to the 1400s. She asked EVERYONE she met where they were from and tried to find a connection to them. Amazingly, she found many. She loved her soap operas and did her best not to miss Y&R and Days.
Sharon struggled with COPD for many years. She put up a valiant fight through her health battles. First when she went on oxygen, and again when she started kidney dialysis in 2019. That is when she and Jerome moved to Prairie Pointe Assisted Living in Bismarck to be near her medical team. She faced each day with determination, up to the end. Several times over the years doctors told her family it was time and there was no more they could do. She proved them wrong. Finally, after 9 days in ICU, she lost the fight.
Sharon is survived by four daughters Andrea (Jay) Butler, Burnsville MN, Cynthia (Alan) Leintz, Surrey ND, Traci (Ryan) Manchenton, Tempe AZ, Lara (Jerry) Schuh, Harvey ND, one son Brent Blumhagen (Karla Ecklund) Moorhead MN. 8 Grandchildren Lauren Butler (Ismail Pathan), Allison (Bo) Putrah, Samantha (Ryan) Kostelecky, Kayla (Colt) Lathrop, McKenzie (Cody) Landphere, Hunter, Gavyn, and Easton Schuh. 6 Great Grandchildren, Gwen, Chandler and Harrison Kostelecky, Judd and Blair Landphere, and Leena Lathrop. Siblings Wayne (Linda), Sun Lakes AZ, Glenn (Clarice) Bismarck ND, and Lynnette (Ron) Schardt, Inver Grove Heights MN.
