Selma Hovland 97 of Harvey died Tuesday March 16 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Funeral: First Lutheran Church, Harvey on Friday March 19 at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation: Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey on Thursday from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Burial: Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Selma was born on January 28, 1913 near Harvey. Selma was the daughter of Jacob and Aletta (Rau) Seltvedt. As a young child she grew up and attended rural school and worked on her parent's farm near Harvey. Selma married Juel Hovland on December 22, 1935 in Harvey. They lived and farmed east of Harvey. They then moved into Harvey in 1951 and Juel worked for the Co-op Creamery until 1963. They moved to Red Lodge, Montana where Juel was also employed by a creamery. They retired in 1970 and moved back to Harvey. Juel died on December 4, 1982. Selma entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in 2003. Selma was a member of the First Lutheran Church its ELCW and the St Aloisius Hospital Auxiliary both of Harvey. Selma was a terrific cook especially known for her homemade bread and fried chicken. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening. Selma loved spending time with family and friends. Selma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lois and Alan Schale of Harvey. 3 granddaughters; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchildren; Selma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Juel; grandson, Jeff Schale; brothers, John Seltvedt, Andrew Seltvedt, and Ole Seltvedt; sisters, Ann Kirby, Clara Jorgenson and Bertha Norvedt. Memorials are preferred to the St. Aloisius Hospital Auxiliary.
