Sandra Schmitt, 69, Bismarck formerly of Hurdsfield died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday with prayer services at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hurdsfield, ND.

Sandra was born on August 11, 1943 at Harvey, ND to Alfred and Norma (Lange) Hirschkorn. She grew up on the family farm south of Hurdsfield, attended country school and high school in Hurdsfield. Sandra married Willis Schmitt on July 23, 1960 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Harvey. She traveled with Willis to numerous states where he worked on construction sites.

They moved to their farm one mile north of Hurdsfield in 1967 where they later built a new home and raised their family. Sandy was very proud of her yard, home, and especially her family. Over the years, Sandra worked at the Hurdsfield Dairy King; was secretary and clerk at the Farm and Family Center in Hurdsfield; cooked at the Veterans Club in Harvey; cleaned homes in Harvey and in Bismarck. They have lived in Bismarck since 2004. In 2011, Sandra was diagnosed with ALS, aka Lou Gehrig's disease. Complications from ALS took Sandra to her home in heaven.

Sandy was very proud of her yard, home, and especially her family. She was a very kind and caring person and would do anything for her children and her grandchildren. She was always there no matter what their need was. She helped with babysitting, painting, decorating, cleaning, and always was a good listener. Sandra's hobbies included traveling, shopping, home decorating, cooking, and growing flowers.

Sandra was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck and a former member at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hurdsfield.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Willis of Bismarck; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Gayle Schmitt of Hurdsfield; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Shanon Buchmiller of Hurdsfield; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; mother, Norma Hirschkorn of Harvey; brother, Allen (Darlene) Hirschkorn, Wing, sister-in-law, Judy Hirschkorn of Harvey; brother-in-law, Ken Fetch of Bismarck; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Alfred; sister, Ronda Fetch, brother, Rodney.
