Roy T. Wangen, 88 of Harvey died Sunday December 19, 2010 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey. Funeral services will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Wednesday December 22, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the spring in Hillsdale Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Roy was born on March 16, 1922 on the family farm in Hillsdale Township west of Harvey, ND. He was the son of Elmer and Carrie (Risgaard) Wangen. He grew up on the family farm north of Hurdsfield and attended the Hurdsfield Public School. He began working at the Armour meatpacking plant in Fargo. He later moved to Sioux City, Iowa where he worked at another Armour plant. He returned to Fargo in the early 1960's. He was employed by Northern Improvement during the construction of Interstate 94. He then worked for the Nodak Store in Fargo as the shop foreman. He specialized in small engine and lawnmower repair. He also worked with tire sales and repair. He retired but decided to return to work part time driving the Fargo Senior Citizen Bus at the depot in Fargo. He moved to Harvey in December 2003 and entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home. He married Eleanor Mayfield on January 26, 1951 in Moorhead, MN. She died August 5, 1990.
Roy was confirmed at the Hurdsfield Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Fargo Senior Citizens. He loved visiting with the nursing home staff and other socializing. He especially enjoyed cookies, lefsa, suckers and playing Bingo.
Roy is survived by one sister, Marion Austin, Carrington; sister-in-law, Darlene Wangen, Goodrich; four nephews, Duane Wangen, Jr., Steve Wangen, Kenneth Wangen and Gary Austin; three nieces, Linda Winter, Marlene Deyle and Shirley Downey; numerous great nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Duane Wangen; brother-in-law, Ernest Austin; infant brother and infant sister.
