Obituary

Roy Raymond Filler, 87, Harvey, ND formerly of Martin died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey, ND.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at the Mennonite Brethren Church, Harvey, ND.

Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

Roy was born on June 18, 1925 in the Lincoln Valley area north of Denhoff, ND. He was the son of Reinhold and Christianna (Goll) Filler. He grew up north of Denhoff and attended rural school. Roy married Darleen June Gesellchen on October 3, 1948 in Denhoff, ND. They farmed and milked cows on a farm in Lincoln Valley. They moved to Whitefish, Montana in 1964 and purchased several tourist cabins which they rented out. Roy also worked on railroad and road construction during the summer months. He spent the winter months working at the Big Mountain Ski Resort and ski shop. In 1969 they moved back to their farm in Lincoln Valley and resumed farming. They moved into Martin in 1971. Roy retired from farming in 1982. He was well known for "Roy's Toys", a small engine repair and tractor restoration hobby. He and Darleen enjoyed many fishing trips in the area and into Canada. Roy would work hard in the fall so he could enjoy many hunts during the fall.

Roy was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church, Harvey and the Drake Threshing Association.

Roy is survived by his wife, Darleen of Harvey, ND; son, Steven of Cocoa, Florida; three brothers, Walter Filler of Denhoff, Wesley Filler of Minot and Rufus Filler of Fargo; two granddaughters, Heather Krause of Columbia Falls, MT and Kristianna Thompson of Spokane, Washington; four great-grandchildren, Michael Stevens, Jordyn Thompson, Rochelle Thompson, Matthew Thompson; two sisters, Lillie Feil of Rock Valley, Iowa and Violet McCartney of Nebraska.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Filler; one sister, Frieda Bartz.
