Rose (Christensen) Frey went into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. She was the daughter of Gust and Clara (Wangen) Christensen and was born on the family farm west of Harvey ND on February 22, 2026. She attended a one-room school in Hillsdale Township west of Harvey with about 30 other children. Everyone, including Rose, spoke Norwegian which made it difficult for the teacher who only spoke English. An interpreter was needed but they all learned to read and write in English.
Rose had a genuine love for horses early in her life and she passed that love on to her children and grandchildren. She rode a horse named Colonel to school every now and then. She would ride to a fence near the school and then would walk the rest of the way. Colonel would turn around and head for home, sometimes not making it home until noon because the grass beneath his feet was just too tempting and he would have to stop often to graze.
Rose married Albert Frey, the love of her life, on March 11, 1944. The early years of their married life were spent on farms in the Martin-Harvey area. In 1951 they moved to Harvey. Albert worked on the Soo Line Railroad and Rose was busy at home raising five children. They started the Frey Paint Service and Rose worked right beside Albert painting and staining woodwork in many homes in Harvey and the surrounding area. Albert passed away on October 10, 1999. They loved decorating their home and yard for the holidays and it was truly amazing!! Rose loved gardening, especially flowers, and many of the plants were started from seed. Her yard was a flower showcase with over 1500 flowers being planted each summer. She was an incredible seamstress, sitting at the sewing machine for hours…she was also a quilter. Rose lived in her beautiful home and maintained that home and yard until the age of 95 when she moved into the St Aloisius Nursing home in September, 2021. On February 22, 2026, Rose celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family. She enjoyed the day and was happy to reach that incredible milestone!
Rose is survived by her children, Glenn (Joan) Frey, Charlotte Goldade, Steve (Jeannie) Frey, Wayne (Joyce) Frey, Tammy Frey (Chad) . Grandchildren, Kim (Jon) Schmidt, Mark (Myndi) Frey, Eric (Kristen) Glasser, Missy (Russ) Kilanowski, Brock (Kate) Goldade, Deanna (Brandon) Pinnow. Great grandchildren, Jordyn, Kolby, Abby, Issac, Annaliese, Jadyn, Ethan, Gage, Kadence, Adalinde, Hudson, Lucas, Evelyn, Hayden and Harper; brother, Elwood Christensen; sister, Donna Schimke. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Albert, son-in-law, Daniel Goldade, siblings Gordon Christensen, Florence Melby, and Ovine Marzolf and her parents, Gust and Clara Christensen.
