Romanus Krenzel, 72, Norwich, ND formerly of the Orrin area passed away Friday, October 4 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Anamoose, ND on Saturday October 12, 2013 at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Friday from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Prayer services will be at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic church of Anamoose, on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery of Orrin.
Romanus was born on December 5, 1940 near Orrin. He was the son of Otto and Catherine (Schneider) Krenzel. He grew up near Orrin and attended school in Orrin and graduated from Anamoose High School in 1960. He entered the army on April 15, 1964 and was honorably discharged on April 4, 1966. He returned to North Dakota and was a laborer on construction sites. He joined the Local 563 labor union and worked on air bases and also at missile sites in the Minot, Nekoma and Grand Forks areas. He also worked on pipeline construction projects in ND and MN and numerous power plant sites in ND. He moved to a farm near Norwich in 1986, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Romanus attended the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. He was a 50 year member of the local 563 labor union. Romanus enjoyed fishing, gardening, and took great pride in raising his farm animals including, pigs, ducks, geese, chickens, and pygmy goats. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Romanus is survived by his brothers, Joseph (Sharon) of Harvey, Tony (Debbie) of Grand Forks, Rudolph (Regina) of Berghiilem, Germany and Leo of Orrin; one sister, Agnes Krenzel of Orrin; sister-in-law Karen Krenzel of Harvey; numerous nieces and nephews. Romanus was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Hugo, twin brothers, Otto and Pius. Romanus passed away on Friday October 4 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis after a lengthy illness. Romanus will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him.
