Roger Gary Vondal, age 79 of Harvey, ND, a husband, a father of six kids, 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a friend to all; passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at CHI St. Alexus Hospital in Bismarck, ND surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey on Friday January 21, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and prayer service following at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Roger was born February 18,1942 in Cavalier County, ND to Adelord and Viola (Olson) Vondal. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Walhalla, ND where he acquired his hard working and thankful attitude. Roger was educated at St. Boniface Elementary School and graduated from Walhalla High School in 1961. He attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Electronic Technology in 1964. He then took a job at Becks Electric in Poplar, Montana. In February 1965 he enlisted in the Montana Army Reserve and later the North Dakota National Guard. While in Poplar, he met and married the love of his life Carol Szymanski in 1967. In January 1969, he opened Vondal's Electric in Harvey, ND. He started installing cable tv for Nodakable and later Midcontinent Cable until 2012.
Roger was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church where he was involved in the cemetery board, Cursillo, Church Council and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the American Legion, Harvey Eagles Club and Harvey Area Chamber.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting model trains and antique toys, square dancing, restoring cars and pickups, woodworking and playing cards.
Survived by his wife Carol Lee Vondal; children; Michelle (Dean) Johnson of Heimdal, Myndi (Mark) Frey of West Fargo, Laura (Matthew) Nelson of Hillsboro, Michael (Erica) Vondal of Parker, CO, Tina (Jim) Mack of Drake, Steven Vondal of Fargo; 11grandchildren, Zachery (Katie) Johnson, Branden Johnson, Porter Johnson, Jadyn Frey, Ethan Frey, Henry Nelson, Benjamin Nelson, Emma Vondal, Madden Vondal, Mariah Mack, Jordan Mack; great-granddaughter, Paisley Johnson; siblings, Richard Vondal, Minot, Joan (Lloyd) Hoffarth, Lakota, Jim (Donna) Vondal, Cando, Barb (Loren) Christianson, Langdon, Roxie (Allen) Horsley, Neche, Valerie Gordon, Audubon, MN, Susan (Brian) Danielson, Walhalla; several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Adelord and Viola Vondal, brother Rodney Vondal, sister-in-law Sharon Vondal, sister-in-law Maggie Vondal.
