Obituary

Roger Tessmann, 76, of Goodrich, ND, died Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Goodrich, ND with burial in the Goodrich City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey.

Roger was born February 13, 1949 in McClusky.  He was the son of David and Frieda (Opp) Tessmann.  Roger grew up north of Goodrich on the family farm and attended rural school near there.  Roger graduated from Goodrich High School in 1967.  He then entered the United States Army on June 14, 1967.  Roger served in Vietnam from November of 1967 until November of 1968.  He was honorably discharged on June 13, 1969 and returned to Goodrich where he farmed with his father.  Roger attended Valley City State College for 2 years.  Roger married Deborah Lovell on August 4, 1973 in Valley City.  They lived in Valley City where he worked for the Olstad Body Shop and worked as a bartender where his customers called him Sarge.  They moved to Goodrich in 1982 where he owned and operated Rogers Paint Shop and he also worked for his brothers, Rueben and Eugene Tessmann on the family farm.  Deborah died on June 10, 2006.

Roger was a member of the First Baptist Church of Goodrich, Albert Block American Legion Post #56 in Goodrich where he served as commander and served on the Military Honor Guard Team.  He was also a  member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Harvey.

Roger enjoyed hunting, bowling, and visiting with friends, attending his military unit reunions, and collecting key chains.

Roger is survived by his son, Damon (Marisa) of Goodrich, daughters, Deanna (Chris) Becket of Edgewater, Florida, Misty (Brian) Galvin of Goodrich; 9 grandchildren; brother, Eugene Tessmann of Harvey; brother-in-law, Gary Allen of Chamberlain, South Dakota.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Deborah, brother, Rueben; sister, Norma Allen; brother-in-law, Jack Zumbaum.
