Obituary

Rodney Hill 59 of McClusky died Friday October 7, 2011 at the St. Alexius Medical Center of Bismarck.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 11, 2011 at the Grace Lutheran Church of McClusky at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of McClusky on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnewaukan Cemetery.

Rodney Blaine Hill was born on November 13, 1951 at Devils Lake, ND. He was the son of Norman and Beulah (Chapman) Hill. He grew up in Leeds and in Turtle Lake. He graduated from the Turtle Lake High School in 1970 and from Minot State University in 1974. He began his career as a social worker at Sheridan County Social Services in McClusky. The last five years he worked as the Home and Community Based Services case manager for Dakota Central Social Services. He supervised two in home care specialists. Rod received recognition for his thirty years of social work and received a lifetime membership award from the North Dakota Conference of Social Welfare.

Rodney married Patricia Roland on June 25, 1977 at Lake Metigoshe, ND. They lived in McClusky and raised their two children, Heather and Troy there. Rodney was very involved in the McClusky community. He served on the McClusky Ambulance, McClusky City Fire Department and the McClusky School Board. He was member Grace Lutheran Church and of the McClusky Lions Club. Rod was very progressive when it came to economic development. He was a member of the Sheridan County Economic Development Corporation. Rod also assisted the Sheridan County Park Board write a development plan for Hoffer Lake, which has become a very popular recreation area.

Rod's hobbies included hunting, trap shooting and fishing. His latest fishing interest was spearing through the ice and making the fishing lures needed for this task. His interest in photography turned into a successful business, Rod's Photographic Impressions. He entered numerous contests and was awarded several times with his pictures being featured on the North Dakota REC magazine covers. Rod had a feature article including pictures published in the "Going Places" magazine. He was a member of the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.

Rod is survived by his wife, Pat of McClusky; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Kyle Hunt of Underwood; son, Troy Hill and his girlfriend Lindsey Buxton of Mission, Kansas; two grandchildren, Emry and Kannon Hunt; sister, Sheri (Gerald) Dauer of Aitkin, MN; brother, Steven Hill, Tacoma, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents.
