Rickie Hoaglund, 64 of Minot, ND formerly of Anamoose died Tuesday May 10, 2022 at his home after a long, hard fight against Lou Gehring's disease (ALS). Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 10:30 am at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Anamoose. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Rickie John Hoaglund was born on January 13, 1958 in Harvey. He was the son of Leonard and Marceline (Striefel) Hoaglund. He was the fourth oldest of 8 children. Rickie grew up south of Anamoose on the family farm. He always said with 6 brothers you had to be first to the table and eat fast if you wanted a second helping. He spent the first 30 years of his life farming and raising dairy cows. Rickie was especially fond of his sister, Bev. He often said he felt bad that she had to grow up with all those boys on the farm.
After a lot of convincing and several years of friendship, Rickie began dating Michelle Frye in 1989. He said he knew from the very beginning she was the one. They were married on June 27, 1992 in Harvey. Rickie spent the second half of his life combining his love of guns with his career as an armed security guard. He served many years as a guard at the Minot AFB Base before becoming licensed by the Federal Protective Service to serve as an armed guard for the IRS tax office in Minot and the Social Security Administration in both Williston and Minot. Rickie served 13 years in the North Dakota National Guard. He was proud to have served his state and country. Rickie and his unit went to Korea on a peacekeeping mission.
Rickie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was especially looking forwarded to seeing his first grandson born. That being said there is no doubt Rickie's true passion was his love of outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His happiest memories of growing up were hunting with his brothers and friends. He loved guns and was a collector especially antique Mauser rifles from WWI & WW2. One of his proudest moments as a hunter was when he tagged a moose right outside of Minot. He taught himself how to reload bullets and there wasn't a question he couldn't answer on guns or ammunition.
Survivors: wife of 30 years Michelle of Minot; mother, Marceline of Macintosh, MN; daughter, Brittany (Josh) Peltier of Williston; son, Matthew Hoaglund of Minot and Bonus daughter, Dakota (Mark) Juma of Grenora; three granddaughters, Kambrie, Hannah, and Karly and one grandson that is due in June; brothers Leslie (Kathy) Hoaglund of Minot, Larry Hoaglund of Warroad MN, and Garry Hoaglund of Fargo; one beloved sister, Beverly (Ernie) Schiele of Omaha NE; mother-in-law, Nancy Frye of Harvey; brothers-in-law Wendelin Frye of Harvey, Benjamin Frye of Blaine, MN; sisters-in-law, Melissa Frye of Harvey and Lisa (Phil) Lemer of Drake. Rickie came from a big family and was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews including over a dozen great nieces and nephews. He had more cousins than he could name.
He was predeceased by his father Leonard, grandparents Edward and Alma Hoaglund and Andrew and Genevieve Striefel, brothers, Thomas, Edward, and Steve and several aunts and uncles.
