Richard L. Montgomery, 69, of Harvey died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in Montana.
Richard Lorenze Montgomery was born on November 22, 1940 in Mankato, MN. He was the son of Carl and Dorothy (Matzke) Montgomery. He lived in Mankato for several years before the family moved to Rexford, Montana which was near Libby. He graduated from the Libby High School in 1958. He entered the U.S. Air Force in October 1959 and was stationed at the Grand Forks Air Base. He was honorably discharged from the air force and reenlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam during the war there and was stationed in Japan. He retired from the service in 1984 after having served 25 years. He returned to Libby, MT and moved to Harvey in 2000. He was once married to Shelle Horowitz. Richard loved to read "Western" books. His favorite author was Louis L'Amour. He enjoyed cooking, bowling, fishing and driving his Corvette. He was a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey. Richard is survived by two daughters, Rebecca, Mrs. Abelardo Guerra of Harvey and Laura May; three grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly Brown of Washington, DC, Sharon Milbrett of Eagle Bend, MN; two brothers, John of St. Peter, MN and Raymond of Mankato, MN. Memorials are preferred to the Harvey Area Relay For Life.
