Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery of Harvey.

Richard was born on June 9, 1940, on the family farm south of Harvey. He often said he was born on the farm and wanted to die on the farm. He was the son of Kenneth and Ethel (Finneman) McKinven and grew up attending country school and Harvey High School.

Richard began farming alongside his father and eventually purchased the family farm. He took great pride in working the land and was happiest when he was busy on the farm, especially alongside his son, Shawn, and his grandson, Axel.

On June 10, 1962, Richard married the love of his life, Carol Keller, in Harvey. Their marriage of 63 years was a beautiful example of love, partnership, and commitment. Together they built a life on the family farm, raising their family, and creating countless memories. Richard deeply loved Carol and found joy in the simple moments they shared.

He was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church of Harvey and enjoyed listening to Carol play the piano in church nearly every Sunday. He previously served as a trustee at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Beyond the farm, Richard enjoyed hunting, playing cards, fishing, riding motorcycle, camping, and traveling (especially to Jamaica). He also had a well-known sweet tooth and especially loved Carol's monster cookies.

Above all else, Richard loved his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. His steady presence, strong work ethic, and quiet love will be deeply missed.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Carol of Harvey; his daughter and son-in-law, Diana and David Lautt of Harvey; his son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Pam McKinven of Harvey; five grandchildren - Wyatt (Maddie) Lautt, McKenzie (Luke) Teigen, Axel (Victoria) McKinven, Olivia Lautt, and Zoe McKinven; and his sisters, Hazel Faul and Kathy Wohl, both of Harvey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tom and Bob; and his sister, Marianne Trippodo.
