Ray was born on October 26, 1931 on a farm five miles south of Martin to Adolph and Emma (Schlag) Henne. He received his elementary education in the Martin Public School system. He graduated from Harvey High School in 1949. Ray married Isabelle Holzer on December 22, 1956. They made their home in Harvey and raised their three daughters in the same home they started their married life and lived in for the past 61 years.
Ray once worked for the S&L Store, the Gambles Store for 15 years and in 1972 he started working for the Behm's corporation, Vison Energy and Ferrell Gas and worked there 25 years until his retirement in 1996.
Ray served in the US army for 24 months on active duty, 1954-1956. While in the military he was selected by his supervisors to attend the 2 nd infantry divisions leadership school upon finishing the course he returned to the headquarters company and remained there as a permanent party.
Ray was a member of the First Congregational Church all his life until its closing. He was a member of the American Legion and served on the Harvey Color Guard for 61 years. Ray enjoyed yardwork, woodworking, gardening and loved his country.
Ray is survived by his wife, Isabelle; daughters, Sheryl (Don) Filler of Harvey, Carol Henne of Jamestown, Karen (Steve) Mayer of Horace, ND; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Verna (Alfred) Weisser.
