Korus
May 10, 1926 – April 28, 2014
Ray A. Korus, 87, Bismarck formerly of Denhoff, ND died Monday, April 28 at his daughter's home in Bismarck.
Funeral services will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church of Goodrich on Monday May 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
Visitation will be at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky on Sunday May 4 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Burial will be in the Goodrich City Cemetery.
Raymond Anton Korus was born on May 10, 1926 on the family farm north of Denhoff, ND. He was the son of John and Rosa (Bergstrazer) Korus. He grew up on the farm with ten siblings and attended rural school before graduating from the Denhoff High School in 1944. Ray entered the Navy on November 14, 1944 during World War II and was stationed in San Diego until being honorably discharged on November 19, 1946.
He returned to the area and taught in a rural school for a year. He began farming and ranching with his partner and brother John south of Denhoff. John passed away years later and Ray continued with the farming and ranching operation
Ray and Lois Skaley were married on March 18, 1956 in Mercer. They lived south of Denhoff. She passed away on November 28, 1991.
Ray moved to Bismarck and spent the last nine years at the Touchmark formerly the Waterford.
Ray was a member, Sunday School Teacher and past council member at the Peace Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the Albert Block American Legion Post in Goodrich. He served on the Goodrich School Board, Denhoff Coop Elevator Board. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Bismarck.
Rays hobbies included traveling including a trip to Germany, playing cards and dancing. He enjoyed his drives with Margaret around Bismarck and trips up to Denhoff. Margaret and Ray also spent many sunny and warm days at his daughter's cabin at Brush Lake. He also enjoyed watching high school basketball and was a Minnesota Twins fan. During the last few years, Ray had many caregivers from Sanford Hospital, Waterford/Touchmark, Hospice and Dakota Travel Nurse Home Care. God has granted his wish "I just want to go home." We rejoice in his going to his heavenly home. We will deeply miss his gentle, quiet, compassionate and loving presence.
Ray is survived by his two daughters, Deb (Lonnie) Krein of Bismarck; Beth (Brad) Kessler of Arden Hills, MN; two sons, Kevin (Sherry) Korus of Denhoff, Kenny (Lee Ann) Korus of Burlington, Connecticut; 9 grandchildren; Nicole (Corey) Schille, Danielle (Brad Dahl), Austin, Nichole Johnson, Brett (Ashley) Johnson, Alison and Adam Kessler, Jenna and Erin Korus; 3 great-grandchildren, Sylas, Maya and Maleah; sisters, Ruth Johnson of Moorhead, MN and Norma McCain of Lafayette, CA.
Ray's family would like to especially acknowledge Margaret Nolte who was Ray's very dear companion, friend and caregiver for the past eleven years.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Wilbert, John, Gideon and Willie; sisters, Frieda Elfeldt, Delillia Kandris, Emma Thimgan and Ella Liebig.
Memorials are preferred to the Goodrich City Cemetery, Goodrich, ND 58444, the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the donors choice.
