Pius was born to John and Anna Wiest on May 25, 1924 on the family farm west of Harvey. He was raised there and farming became a big part of his life. He always liked to go back and visit the family farm. He loved to check the crops. Even to the last year of his life, he appreciated being taken for drives in the country to check the fields. He went to the Drake Threshing Show every year. In his younger years he worked as a farmhand for Rummy Hager in Great Falls, Montana, Anton Volochenko in Keif, ND, Ambrose Schneider in Selz, and John and Archie Schwan in Balta. In 1988 he started working at the Recycling Center in Harvey. He lived on his own in an apartment and drove a white Oldsmobile car that was his pride and joy. In December of 2001 when he moved to the Jackson Group Home, his car came with him. He took good care of it but eventually put it up for sale. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and playing the harmonica. Ham and fried potatoes were his favorite meal. He enjoyed weekly shopping trips to get candy and pop. Most of it he ate himself, but he also liked to slip a piece of candy to staff on occasion. For many years he put the American flag out and brought it in daily at his Jackson residence.

Pius worked at Recycling until he was in his 80's. Sometimes he would say, "I'm 80 and I'm still working. They won't let me retire." When he did retire from the recycling center, he continued to shred paper in his home. He enjoyed this job, but sometimes he would wave his hand and say, "I don't do nothin' no more." Another of his famous sayings was, "I'm old enough, and I don't have to do it."  Until the last few years of his life, he attended church every Sunday. He enjoyed going out to eat afterward. He also had lunch in town at Hornbacher's Café or went to the café in Esmond where he had farming acquaintances. He enjoyed spending a week with his sister Helen in Minot and visit his brother in Washburn. Pius celebrated his 95 th birthday this past May with a family gathering at his brother Jim's house.

Pius is survived by his sister, Helen (Harry) Iverson of Minot; brothers, Jerome (Karen) Wiest of Washburn and James Wiest of Harvey; several nieces and nephews.  Pius was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bertha Wiest and Lucille Keller; brother, Leo Wiest.
