Paul Schmaltz, 96, Minot, ND formerly rural Harvey died Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Trinity Homes in Minot.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 with rosary/prayer services following at 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Paul Peter Schmaltz was born on June 29, 1926 at Orrin, ND to Joseph and Rosella (Eisenzimmer) Schmaltz. The family moved to the Selz, ND area where he grew up and attended school He married Irene Heilman on July 29, 1946 in Selz. They lived and farmed northwest of Selz. Paul retired from farming in 2010 and moved to Minot.  Irene died on Dec. 9, 2010.   Paul was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Wells Eagles Arie #3080, and the Harvey Rural Fire Department.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting geese and deer, dancing, bingo, and playing cards.

Paul is survived by four children; Duane (Betty) Schmaltz of Knoxville, Iowa, JoAnne (Raymond) Lemer of Minot, Bob (Christine) Schmaltz of Grand Forks, and Leon (Renee) Schmaltz of Harvey; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Barbara Gisi; brother Joseph.
