Patrick J. Grad, 76, Harvey, ND died Friday, May 14, 2010 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 17 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be today (Sunday) from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with prayer services at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
Pat was born on May 6, 1934 on the family farm in Pierce County northwest of Selz, ND. He was the son of John and Scholastica (Eisenzimmer) Grad. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. As a young man he was a farmer. He then worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 21 years. More recently he drove the taxi transferring railroad crews for Coach America. Pat loved being around his children; grandchildren; relatives and friends. He would love to travel and visit family but after a brief stay would comment, "Gotta go." Pat made himself available to his friends by offering rides for appointments or going to the grocery store. Pat's hobbies included playing cards, especially pinochle. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. Pat was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey. Pat is survived by two sons, Steve (Sylvia) Grad of Harvey, Jonathan (Nicole) Grad of Warroad, MN; four daughters, Judy (Mark) Heilman of Tioga, Janet (Larry) Sunderman of Austin, MN, Sandi (Wayne) Deede of Harvey and Susan Grad of Anchorage, Alaska; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Emanuel (Dorothy) Grad of Harvey. Pat was preceded in death by his parents.
