Ovine Lucille was born on February 12, 1922 on the family farm west of Harvey, ND. She was the daughter of Gust and Clara (Wangen) Christensen. She grew up on the family farm and attended a one room school in Hillsdale Township with 30 other children. Everyone, including herself spoke Norwegian which made it difficult for the only English speaking teacher. An interpreter was needed, but they all learned how to read and write in English. During the summer months she babysat for many relatives and neighbors.
Ovine married Philip Marzolf on February 6, 1943 in Hood River, Oregon where Philip was working in the logging camps. Three children were born to this union. Ruthie was born in 1947 and died in 1953 of complications from cystic fibrosis. Their sons, Dwight and Gaylen, were born in 1955 and 1961 respectively. Gaylen died in 2012 also from complications from cystic fibrosis.
Ovine and Phil lived and farmed southeast of Martin, ND. Ovine worked at the Harvey Livestock Auction for thirteen years during the 1980s and 1990s. She was very content being a farm wife and raised a large garden and milked cows. At age 91 she was quoted as saying, "Work doesn't hurt you!"
Philip died on August 1, 1998. Ovine continued to reside on the farm until she moved into Harvey in September 2012 and then entered the St. Aloisius nursing home a few weeks before her passing.
Ovine was a member of the Martin Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years and also taught Sunday School.
Ovine is survived by a son, Dwight (Marjory) Marzolf of Hudson, NH; two grandchildren, Brandon (Linda), and Lyndsi (Dale) and four great grandchildren, Kalisan, Skylar, Liana, and Aeryn; daughter-in-law Lynette (Gaylen Marzolf) Bender; sisters, Florence Melby and Rose Frey both of Harvey, Donna Schimke of Warroad, MN; two brothers, Gordon (Lorraine) Christenson of Harvey and Elwood (Betty) Christenson of Riverside, CA.
