Obituary

"Nip" Nathan Stafford, 69, Harvey, ND died Friday, August 9, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey after battling cancer for several years.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 13 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Harvey.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Nathan Marvin "Nip" Stafford was born on September 7, 1943 in Harvey. He was the son of James and Marion (Stendahl) Stafford. He graduated from the Harvey High School in 1961. Nip entered the army on July 12, 1961 and served at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and in Heidelberg, Germany. He was honorably discharged on June 25, 1964.

Nip married Cheryl G. Schwarz on January 22, 1967 in Harvey. He was a clerk at the Harvey depot for the Soo Line Railroad which later became the Canadian Pacific Railroad. He retired in 2003.

Nip loved his sports and was an avid Twins and Vikings fan. He attended many high school games and served as a team host for basketball tournaments. He was a sports announcer for KHND Radio. He served on the Recreation Board and as president on the Harvey Park Board, was a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie # 3080 in Harvey, VFW Post and Booster Club in Harvey. Nip enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling, going to the casino and spending time at their cabin at Strawberry Lake. He also played softball and umpired for softball and baseball. He enjoyed morning coffee with his friends and always kept in touch with nieces and nephews.

Nip attended the First Lutheran Church.

Nip is survived by his wife Cheryl of Harvey; three sisters, Janice Neuenschwander of Bismarck, Mavis (Cam) Rusch of Mesa, AZ, Linda Stafford of Minneapolis, MN; brothers, Florian "Tom" (Sharon) of Carmel, Indiana, Ardell (Jean) of Harvey and Darrell "Cheta" of Harvey, Randy (Val) of Wells, MN; numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Stafford, Fessenden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wayne "Ves", Norman "Dutch" and Lowell "Luke."
