Obituary

Melvin Schindler, 90, McClusky died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake, ND.

Funeral services will be held at the Assembly of God Church, McClusky on Saturday October 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Friday Oct. 4 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Burial will be in the McClusky City Cemetery.

Melvin O. Schindler was born March 3, 1923 at McClusky, ND. He was the son of Sam and Bessie (Bennett) Schindler. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools. Melvin married Melva Mauch on March 6, 1943 at McClusky. They farmed north of McClusky and resided there.

In addition to his farming interests, Melvin was very active in Sheridan County affairs. He served as a charter member and secretary of the Coop Elevator of McClusky; as president and director of the Farmers Union Oil Co., McClusky and Denhoff; ASC Committeeman; past president of the Sheridan Association; past secretary of the Coop Creamery; ambulance driver; 4-H Club leader, McClusky Lions Club member for over 20 years; as Vice President of the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky; Hellman School District Clerk. Melvin was a charter member of the McClusky Rural Fire Department and assisted in organizing it into the McClusky Rural Fire Protection District # 1. He served 10 years as Secretary and as President of the McClusky Rural Fire Protection District # 1. He was a fireman for over 50 years and received his Life Membership from the North Dakota Firefighters Association.

Melvin was a member of the Assembly of God Church in McClusky and served as a board member and President at the church. He also served on the Assembly of God Home For The Aged board. He and Melva traveled to Brussels, Belgium and aided in restoring bible school dormitories; to Guatemala and Peru where they helped rebuild or build church projects

Melvin is survived by his wife, Melva, McClusky; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Dee of McClusky; three grandchildren, Teri (Tim) Pfaff, Heidi (Kirby) Steichen; Mike; five great-grandchildren, Saresha, Dalton, Maria, Maddux and Jake.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pearleen Bauer; brother, Orville Schindler.
