Maurice "Bill" Goodwin, 88, of Anamoose, ND died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the St. Aloisius Hospital of Harvey.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Anamoose on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held on Friday August 8, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Maurice William Goodwin was born on February 11, 1937, in Bella Vista, Arkansas to Dannie and Nona (Petty) Goodwin. He grew up in Arkansas and Missouri. He attended high school in Minden, Missouri and obtained his GED later. He entered the Air Force on June 2, 1954, and was stationed at radar bases in Greenland and south of Minot, ND. Bill married LaDonna Hager on September 2, 1957. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1957. They lived in Minot for several years before moving to Sacramento where he worked at a Cambells Soup plant for ten years. Bill then became a USDA meat inspector and with his new position taking him and his family from California and eventually to Minnesota. In 1979 they moved to Anamoose and purchased the grocery store. They operated it as Goodwin's Fairway. He sold the store and retired in 1998. Bill's hobbies included woodworking, hunting and fishing. Bill's dedication to his community included serving as a McHenry County Commissioner for 12 years, on the Anamoose Fire Department for 46 years and stepping down as president of the board earlier this year. He was member of the Drake Knights of Columbus Council as a 4th Degree Knight, member of David D. Nehrenberg American Legion Post 32, Drake, and a member of Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey.
Bill is survived by his wife, LaDonna; son, Gary (Diana) Goodwin, Livingston, CA; daughter-in-law, Lynda; three grandchildren, Joshua Goodwin, Samantha Alshire, Amy Culhane; great grandchildren, James Alshire, Roselyn Alshire, Kaylee Alshire, Elly Goodwin, Quentin Culhane; brothers, Kenny Goodwin of Springfield, MO, Tom Goodwin of Pineville, MO; sister Mary Endicott of Minden, MO. Bill was preceded in death by his son, James; parents; brothers Jim Goodwin and Danny Goodwin.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to St. Francis Xavier Cemetery or to the donor's choice.
