Marylou (Best) Schmidt was born January 31, 1934 in Chaseley, ND.  Mary Lou was the daughter of Charles and Susie (Kleinsasser) Best.  She attended school in Hurdsfield.  She began working at Berg's 5 & Dime in Harvey and lived with her 2 sisters Geraldine Hoffard and Grace Frueh.  She married Gilbert Schmidt on November 26, 1950 in Harvey.  Gilbert entered the Army on April 3 1951, and Mary Lou lived with her sisters until his return in 1953.  Mary Lou and Gilbert moved to Wahpeton so Gilbert could attend North Dakota School of Science.  They lived in North and South Dakota, Texas, Minnesota, Nebraska and Tennessee.  They returned to Harvey in 1992 to spend their retirement years.

Marylou enjoyed taking care of her violets, roses and other flowers both inside her home and in her garden.  She loved to bake and cook for her family. Her grandchildren thought she made a real good Kuchen and definitely the best caramel rolls ever.  She enjoyed helping others.  Her past time was to attend auctions and she always found a good deal.

Her husband Gilbert passed away in 2019 after 69 years together.  She entered St Aloisius Nursing Home in 2021 and lived there until her passing.  She enjoyed playing bingo before entering the nursing home and won often.  She also played at the nursing home, but the payouts were not what she was used to.

Marylou is survived by her daughter Twila (John) Brodersen of Omaha NE; four grandchildren, Laura (Brett) Mackenzie of Omaha NE, Jennifer (Scott) Korth of Omaha NE, Ian Schmidt of Parkersburg WV, Jared Schmidt of Parkersburg WV; five great grandchildren Natalie Holman, Hailey Korth, Brandon Holman, Addison Korth, Brianna Mackenzie all of Omaha NE; sister Geraldine (Best) Hoffard and sister-in-law Dorothy Best both of Harvey; daughter-in-law Barb Schmidt, Parkersburg, WV.

Marylou was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gilbert; son Cary Schmidt; grandson Jason Severson; brother Charles Best; sisters Clara Knodel, Grace Frueh.
