Mary Volk 93 of Harvey died Monday January 30, 2017 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 3 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Mary was born June 3, 1923, Wellsburg, N.D. to Peter and Annie (Richter) Wack. She was raised on a farm near Wellsburg and attended school in Wellsburg. Mary worked with her parents on the farm fulltime until 1940. Then she decided to work at St. Aloisius Hospital in dietary and then in laundry, taking time off during harvest to help her parents.
On November 4th, 1943, she married Otto Volk where they moved onto the family farm and raised four children. They farmed for 32 years. In 1973 they moved into Harvey where Mary went back to work at St. Aloisius Hospital in the housekeeping department for 18 years in which 8 years she was the supervisor. She retired in 1991. Mary and Otto were together for 70 years until his passing on January 19, 2014.
Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting, many crafts, and especially bingo – she was notorious for winning!
She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Harvey Eagles Auxiliary and also belonged to the St. Cecilia Catholic Church Altar Society.
She is survived by three children, Diane (Rod) Melby of Bismarck, Doug (Brenda) Volk of Bismarck, Delila (Clyde) Vetsch of Horace; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Annie Axtman of Harvey, Barbara Keller of Harvey, Lorraine Richter of Kent Washington, and Sharon Held of Hankinson.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; parents, Pete and Annie Wack; one son, David; two sisters, Regina Kessler and Lena Weinmann , two brothers Albert and Jimmy Wack.
Mary passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey, ND. May Mary's soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
