Mary Ann Michelson was born January 1, 1934, in Harvey, North Dakota.  Mary Ann spent her childhood in Martin, ND, where her parents Helmuth and Mary (Putz) Eckart had a general store on main street.  Mary Ann was one of six children, Alice, Dorothy, Richard, Fran, and Cleo.  She graduated from Martin High School in 1952. Mary Ann went to Minot State College for a summer school semester to receive training to become a teacher.  That fall she worked at a Country School for one year.

Mary Ann married Marvin (Bud) Michelson on August 16, 1953, in the Martin Baptist Church. They moved to Bud's parents' farm, (Conrad & Christine Michelson) where they lived in their first home together. Mary Ann was the ideal farm wife, completing tasks such as working in the fields and tending to farm animals. During this time, she became a skilled baker, and many people loved her delicious goodies. She enjoyed hosting and cooking for family gatherings throughout her life.

Bud and Mary Ann had their only child, Sandy, born on December 26, 1955.

During these years, Mary Ann balanced raising her family, participating in activities, and fulfilling the demanding role of a farm wife, both indoors and outdoors. She also found joy in teaching Sunday School and assisting with Vacation Bible School at the Martin Baptist Church. Mary Ann was a member of the Martin Baptist Church and loved being the Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a proud member of the Martin Homemakers Club.

Bud and Mary Ann retired from farming in 1993. Mary Ann transitioned to a job at HAV-IT in Harvey where she worked for 25 years.

In 2019, Bud and Mary Ann moved into the senior living apartments next to the Harvey Nursing home. While living here, she enjoyed visiting with fellow apartment residents, putting together puzzles, and giving Bud grief for sleeping in too late.

Mary Ann is survived by, her husband of 71 years, Bud Michelson, her daughter Sandy (Bill) Popp of Milnor, ND, her grandchildren, Larissa (Nathan) Hoots, of Tower City, ND, and Joe Popp of Britton, SD, and her great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Kinsley Hoots.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents Helmuth and Mary Eckart, and her siblings Alice Wade, Dorothy Dockter, Richard Eckert, Fran Arussell, and Cleo Bender.
