Mary Held, 76 of Selz died Sunday May 1, 2011 at her home in Bismarck. Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Anthony Catholic Church of Selz on Thursday May 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Prayers services will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Mary was born on September 27, 1934 in Rugby, North Dakota. She was the daughter of George and Theresa (Kuntz) Bachmeier. Mary grew up and attended country school near Orrin, North Dakota. She married Edward Held on October 20, 1952 in Selz. They lived and farmed on the Held family farm east of Selz. Mary took an active part in the daily farming operation whether it was milking cows or working in the field. Mary was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic church and its altar society, Christian Mothers, Catholic Order of Foresters, all of Selz. Mary enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking German foods, listening to polka music, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and occasionally going to the casino. Mary is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jerome and Pam Held of Harvey, Daniel and Virginia Held of Selz; daughters and sons-in-law, Vernae and Jerry Bender of Harvey, Janet and Mark Schmidt of Bismarck, Karen and Marvin Migler of Rugby; nine grandchildren, Michael, Tammy, Kim and Katie Held, Alex and Austin Schmidt, Kyle, Kelli and Kristin Migler; two great-grandchildren, Ayla Held and Lilly Held; sisters, Ann Selzler of Harvey, Phyllis Bichler of Monroe, Washington, Helen Wienecke of Damascess, Oregon, Carol Dresser of Cordova, Tennessee; brothers, August Bachmeier of Bonny Lake, Washington, Nick Bachmeier of Rugby. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; brother, Adam Bachmeier; sisters, Cecilia Heilman and Betty Schneider.
