Martin James Kuntz, age 49, of rural Martin, ND died on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Selz, ND. Visitation will be Thursday April 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by a Rosary and Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND. Burial will be held at a later date.
Martin was born on January 6, 1975 in Portland, OR to Martin and Stella (Hoffarth) Kuntz. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1993. He also attended a community college in Portland. Martin began his career with the Union Pacific Railroad while living in Nebraska and later moved to Washington.
Martin met Maria Tillman in 2014 and they were married on September 4, 2021 in Battleground, WA. They moved their family to a farm they purchased northeast of Martin, ND in August 2023. Martin was a heavy equipment operator with the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years. He was a member of the Maintenance and Ways Union and recently had joined the Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey. His hobbies included camping, collecting guns, toy tractors and four wheeling. Martin loved spending time with his family and relatives. He especially enjoyed living in North Dakota.
Martin is survived by his wife, Maria; two sons, Martin at home and Adrian in Kentucky; daughters, Alana in Kentucky and Kasey at home; brother, Kenny (Julie) Kuntz of Portland, OR; sisters, Corine Romeis of Portland, OR, Maureen (Carlos) Torres of Murrieta, CA, Michelle (Joe) Pratz of Portland, OR. Martin was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to be used according to the wishes of the family.
