Smestad, 92, Harvey, ND died on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey, ND.  Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Hertz Funeral Home in Harvey.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Lutheran Cemetery, Anamoose, ND.

Marliss was born December 15, 1928 on a farm near Harvey, ND to Nils and Myrtle (Holter) Smestad.  When Marliss was a young child the family moved to a farm south of Anamoose where she attended country school.  She helped her parents with the farming and household chores.  Her parents retired in 1972 and she moved with them to Harvey in 1975.  She lived with her parents until their deaths and moved into an apartment.  She entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in July 2015.

Marliss enjoyed working puzzles, embroidering and watching game shows on television.

Marliss was a member of the St. Martin's Lutheran Church.

Marliss is survived by two sisters, Janice Miiller of Harvey and Maxine Kittelson of Norway, Michigan; brother-in-law, Roger Lindberg of Galt, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marliss was preceded in death by her parents; infant twins, brother Irvin and sister, Irene; sister, Lila Lindberg; brothers-in-law, Rueben Miiller,  Ervin Kittelson.
