Mark Mears, 47, of Harvey, North Dakota, formerly of Wisconsin, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon October 31, 2025, near Wellsburg, North Dakota.
Mark was born on July 18, 1978, at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia. He was the son of Michael and Susan (Angle) Mears. At the age of four months he moved with his parents to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Mark grew up and attended school in Oshkosh and graduated from Oshkosh West High School. After a short time with N&M Transfer he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Following boot camp in San Diego, California and Class A school in Aberdeen, Maryland, he was stationed at Camp Fuji, Japan, where he served as an armored vehicle mechanic. After a serious injury, Mark was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp on September 30, 2001. Returning to Oshkosh, he worked for the Roxy Supper Club for six years. He then found his niche working 15 years at the Waupaca Foundry while living in Poy Sippi, Waupaca and Wautoma, Wi. Mark moved to Harvey, North Dakota in August of 2025 and was currently working at Rugby Manufacturing in Rugby, North Dakota where he was Daytime Production Supervisor.
Mark's passion was hunting, fishing and camping; especially duck hunting and bass fishing with his dad. He made custom fishing rods for friends and family and even sold a few. Mark also enjoyed woodworking, fixing things and riding horses with his fiance. He was always ready to help others with a project. Mark was a member of Ducks Unlimited.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Cali (Jacob Prasser) Antigo, WI, and granddaughter Pruette; his son Sam of Milwaukee, WI; Parents, Michael and Susan Mears of Harvey, ND; fiancé Krystal Draeger and her sons AJ Paulson of Harvey, ND and Mason Draeger of Iola WI; brother, Scott Mears of Colorado Springs, CO; his best friend Mike Seward of Waupaca, WI., several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and his two special dogs, Frank and Mack.
Mark was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 5, from 12 noon until 2:00 pm. at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey, ND. A private family burial will follow in East Vang Lutheran Cemetery, Fessenden, ND at a later date.
Memorial services for Mark will be held in Wisconsin on Friday, November 7, at Waushara Community Church, Wautoma. Visitation will be 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Service at 10:30 am. There will be no lunch provided afterward.
