Marcella Helena Bertsch's Obituary
Marcella Bertsch, 89 of Martin, ND died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Martin Baptist Church, Martin, ND.
Burial will be in the Martin Baptist Cemetery.
Friends may sign the register book at Hertz Funeral Home in Harvey from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
Marcella Helena Rust was born on December 1, 1924 on the family farm west of Martin. She was the daughter of Jacob and Marie (Jans) Rust. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Martin High School. She received her teaching certificate at Minot State College. Her early career was spent teaching in Wells County country schools. She also taught in Walhalla, ND.
Marcella married Wilfred Bertsch on June 8, 1957 in Martin, ND. They lived in Goodrich where she taught in the Goodrich Public School. They moved to Martin in 1964. Marcella also taught at the Drake Public School, retiring in 1981. Wilfred died on October 10, 2002.
Marcella moved to New Rockford in 2005 and to the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey in 2010.
She was a member of the Martin Baptist Church.
Marcella is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Gretchen Bertsch of Fessenden; four grandchildren, Jessica (Charles) Mason-Hill, Andrew Rice, Jonathan Rice, and Benjamin Bertsch; brother, James (Jean) Rust of Martin, ND; sisters, Patricia Ellingson of Minot; Julie (Ted) Kautzmann of Fairmont, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers, Alfred, Warren, Calvin, Gerhardt, Ralph, William and Terrance; two sisters, Janice Fiske and Adeline Kanwischer; grandson, Christopher Rice.
Memorials are preferred to the Martin Baptist Cemetery.
