Mack Susag, 85, Harvey, ND died Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at Faith Lutheran Church, Harvey. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday May 29 with prayer services following at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Mack was born October 2, 1938, in Circle, MT to Sig and Vernie (Duncan) Susag. His family moved to Crosby where he attended school and graduated in 1957. He started his college education in Wahpeton from 1958 to 1959, then transferred to Mayville State College where he received his teaching degree in 1963. He taught school in Walhalla, ND from 1963 to 1964, in Forbes, ND from 1965 to 1966, and then in Mercer, ND where he was also Principal from 1967 to 1970.
In 1971, Mack moved his family to Harvey, ND where he, along with his brother Jim, started Susag Sand and Gravel which is still in operation today. While Mack was attending school in Mayville, he met Dianne Tonder who he married in 1960. During their marriage, they had three children.
Mack married Pat (Johnson) Orwick on December 26, 2004. Together, they enjoyed time with their children and grandchildren, and spent their winters in Arizona.
Mack is survived by his wife Pat; as well as his son Kerry (Tammie) of Harvey, daughter Jennifer Reinke of Mandan, Stepson Bryce (Ann) Orwick of Clara City, MN; sister Zyella Voiles of Menomonee Falls, WI; brother Richard Susag of Dana Point, CA; grandchildren Sam Johnson and Tess (David) Smiley of Grand Forks, Kasey (Adam) Berger of Mandan, Krystal (Sam) Susag and Kylie (Jared) Susag of Bismarck, Hunter Reinke, Hudson Reinke of Mandan; step-grandchildren, Keith (Sara) Pic of Bismarck, Teresa (Bruce) Deweese of Williston, Emily (Colton) Carlson and Carly Orwick of Willmar, MN; great-grandchildren, Taryn Nelson, Toby and Ty Johnson, Kane Smiley, Augusta Berger, Julius and Charles Pic, Madyson DeWeese.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents; sister Verneita Fields; brother Jim Susag; daughter Kim (Susag) Johnson; son-in-law Bob Reinke; stepson Brad Orwick; grandson Max Johnson, and granddaughter Sydney Reinke.
