Lucille May Bergstrazer 93, of York, Nebraska formerly of McClusky, North Dakota, died Tuesday July 16, 2013 at the Hearthstone nursing home in York. Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church of McClusky on Saturday July 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral of McClusky on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Goodrich City Cemetery.
Lucille was born on December 21, 1919 in Meridian, Nebraska. She grew up on her parent's farm and attended school in Meridian and Alexandria, Nebraska. After she got out of school she and her sister raised Turkeys for a short time. After which she moved to Lodi, California to live with her sister Adeline. While in California she enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 28, 1944 and served as a WAVE. She was stationed at Hunter College Bronx, New York, Bethesda Naval Hospital Maryland, and the San Diego Naval Hospital. She was honorably discharged on March 16, 1946 with the rank of PhM 3rd class. Lucille married Melvin Bergstrazer on December 6, 1949 in Lodi, CA. Lucille and Melvin moved back to the family farm north of Denhoff and farmed for many years. Their farming operation consisted of growing small grains, raising beef cattle and operating a dairy. They retired from farming in the early 1980's. They moved to McClusky in 2001. Melvin died on December 17, 2005. Lucille was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of McClusky and belonged to the LWML and quilters group. She was a member American Legion Post #56 of Goodrich. Lucille enjoyed knitting and quilting and spending time with her family and her grand dogs Ella, Sam and Little Miracles.
Lucille is survived by her children, Sandra (Jeff) Roze of New London, WI, Janice (Tim) Hanson of Turtle Lake, ND, Reverend Allen (Carol) Bergstrazer of York, NE;; eight grandchildren, Mark (Trisha) Charboneau of Lincoln, Korrey (Cheri) Charboneau of Minot, Brody (Heather) Brewster of Turtle Lake, Tim Jans of Turtle Lake, Amanda Jans of Bismarck, Lindsay (Shawn) Morrow of Mandan, Elizabeth Hanson of Bismarck, and Katrina Hanson of Turtle Lake; Seven great-grandchildren, Hailey Hansen, Shelby Charboneau, Bianca Charboneau, Lily and Addison Brewster and Mackenzie and Dayne Holt. And sister Adeline Dodd of Stockton, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Carrie Broeder, Brother Harry Broeder, Sisters Catherine Forney and Alma Long; Husband, Melvin.
