Lowell Elroy Tilbury, 87 of Hurdsfield, ND passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 at St. Aloisius Medical Center with family by his side after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held January 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in Goodrich, ND.
Lowell was born June 16, 1929 in Canby, MN to Alice (Laabs) and Clarence Tilbury. He grew up on the family farm near Canby, MN and attended school at Madison, MN. His father was killed in World War II, when Lowell was a young boy. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy. He served on the USS Midway for 4 years. Lowell worked road construction in ND where he met the love of his life Janice Bohn. They were married on Oct. 12, 1957 in Redwood Falls, MN. They made their home in ND and MN for the next 59 years. They had 7 children. Lowell retired from road construction in 1991. He loved spending his summers in ND where he enjoyed helping his son-in-law Mark farm.
Lowell was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich, ND, Grace Lutheran in Fairmont, MN, Fairmont Eagles Club where he enjoyed being with all his friends and making sure the club was in order and cleaned. Lowell had a big heart and he loved unconditionally. He loved meeting new people and visiting with them. Family was very important to him and he loved when his family was all together. He was a big hockey fan and loved watching his son Jason play and his great-grandson Harper play and the Minnesota Wild. He was also a big Viking fan.
To cherish his memory are his wife Janice and children; Vikki Bentz, Harvey, ND, Tami (Bruce) Whitman, Truman, MN, Rick (R'Lene) Tilbury, Zimmerman, MN, Danette (Mark) Fornshell, Hurdsfield, ND, Rodney Tilbury, Hurdsfield, ND, Tim (Steph) Tilbury, Hoffman, MN, Jason (Angela) Tilbury, Princeton, MN; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Gene Tilbury, Milford, IN; sister Shirley Peters, Redwood Falls, MN; step father Clarence Marczak of Glen Wood, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Lowell was preceeded in death by his parents; brother; sister; father-in-law; mother in law and many special cousins and friends.
