Obituary

Louis "Louie" Grad, 90, Harvey, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in his home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Louis was born November 13, 1920 on the family farm south of Balta, ND. He was the son of Joseph and Caroline (Lesmeister) Grad. He grew up there and attended rural school. Louie married Katherine Selensky on November 23, 1943 at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. They moved to the Cando area in 1944 where they farmed for many years. They later moved to a farm south of Harvey. Louie worked for Feist Construcion Co. in Drake for many years. He retired and continued to live on the farm near Harvey. They moved into Harvey on October 1, 2006. Louis stayed active in his retirement. He had big gardens, raised chickens and loved to play cards. He also loved to follow his family's band, "The Country Cousins" around the state. He also enjoyed keeping the yard up and doing his part having mowed the yard just days before his death. Louie was a kind, gentle and quiet man with a cheerful smile and pleasant demeanor. He was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church and the Wells Eagles Aerie both in Harvey. His wife passed away on December 13, 2006 after 63 years of marriage.

Louie is survived by two sons, Jim (Diane) Grad of Dickinson, Gary (JoAnn) Grad of Devils Lake; three daughters, Eleanore Grad and Marlene Grad both of Harvey, Mary Ann (Bruce) Rheault of Rugby; five grandchildren, Tina (Ray) Haverluk, Tammy (Darin) Schumacher, Dennis Grad, Polly (Cory) Eckes, Kevin Grad; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Christopher, Justin, Eckes, Eric and Avery Haverluk, Hunter Grad, Taya and Trin Obrigewitch; two sisters, Theresa Schwan, Harvey, Betty Rudnick, Anamoose.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, Kenny Grad; five brothers, Edward, Philip, Walter, Leo, and Nick Grad; two sisters, Lena Hager and Rose Axtman; two infant sisters, Caroline and Katherine.
