During her school days she participated in music, plays, and declamation contests where she memorized two typewritten pages of print. She and a friend sang duets and took part in various school programs. After high school she worked in Aberdeen, SD, and Harvey, ND, as housekeeper and waitress. Other interests were sewing, quilting, embroidering, crocheting, and earned many ribbons at the Sheridan County Achievement Days with her handiwork.
