Loren Pellett 76 of Harvey died Monday August 27 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey surrounded by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 30 at Faith Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Loren was born on March 14, 1942 in Minot, ND. He was the youngest child of Loren and Anna (Stenehjem) Pellett, their only son with four older sisters. Loren graduated from Anamoose High School in 1960 where he was known as "The Royal Leaper." Loren married Janice Liebelt on November 22, 1963 in Harvey. Their wedding day was overshadowed by the death of President John F. Kennedy.
Loren worked at various jobs including missile sites and road construction. In Harvey he worked for Loerch's Westland as a motorcycle and snowmobile mechanic. He began his career in propane working for Behm's Propane, where he later became manager. He was managing Ferrellgas when he retired. After retirement he worked part time for Lautts Feed and Rental.
Loren loved sports. He played softball and basketball for many years. For over 30 years he was a high school basketball and football referee. Loren shared his love for hunting with his sons, grandsons and friends. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, hosting "Happy Hour" in his garage and playing a competitive game of "spoons" with family on the holidays. He also raced snowmobiles and rode horse on many trail rides and cattle drives.
Loren was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Harvey. He was a member of the Harvey Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department where he served as Fire Chief from 1984 to 1986. His many years in the department were spent serving and protecting the residents and property in the area. He was well known and respected for his fire service both in the local and surrounding fire departments. He also belonged to the Wells Eagles Aerie #3080 and served on the Sunnyside Cemetery Board in Harvey.
Loren is survived by his wife, Janice of 54 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chad and Laurie of Harvey and Stacy and Wendy of West Fargo; grandchildren, Payton Pellett, Harvey, Cullen Pellett of West Fargo, Brandon (Lacey) Sanders, Fargo, Kayla (Tyler) Wolfe, Bottineau; great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Emersyn, Ledger, Harper and Stella; sisters, Leona Brower of Harvey, Cherraine Weltz, Harvey, Bonnie Heisler, Devils Lake, Ione Lang, Minot; brothers-in-law, Wayne Liebelt, Burlington, WI, Dwight (Vicki) Liebelt, Grand Junction, CO. Special grandkids, Wyatt, McKenzie, and Olivia Lautt. Loren was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers-in-law, Bob Brower, Ervin Weltz, Myron Lang, Dan Heisler and one sister-in-law Alvadine Liebelt Geisinger.
