Obituary

Lloyd "Spuddy" Bauer 84 of McClusky died Saturday June 25, 2011 at his home in McClusky.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 29 at the United Methodist Church of McClusky at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of McClusky on Tuesday June 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the McClusky City Cemetery.

Lloyd Sidney Bauer was born May 31, 1927 in LaMont Township near McClusky. Lloyd was one of twelve children born to Emanuel and Eva (Opp) Bauer. He attended the LaMont Township School. As a young lad he worked hard to make a buck. He sold gopher tails for a penny a tail, trapped weasel, skunk and mink. He graduated from the McClusky High School in 1945 and taught in a rural school. He entered the Navy in January 1946 and served aboard the battleship USS Washington. He received his honorable discharge in October 1946. He went to a barber school in Fargo and returned to McClusky. where he barbered for 20 years with Pete Guthmiller. Lloyd married Pearleen Schindler on November 11, 1951 near McClusky. They adopted a son Richard. After being a barber for 20 years in McClusky, Lloyd returned to the family farm. Lloyd and Pearleen were married for 31 years when she passed away from cancer in 1982. He farmed for over thirty years and truly loved the land, watching wildlife and raising cattle. He met and later married Marsha Ness on June 29, 1983 in McClusky. They continued to farm in LaMont Township. Lloyd and Marsha turned the main farm over to his son Richard and family in 1992 and retired to a small farmstead northwest of McClusky.

Lloyd was committed to progress in McClusky and the surrounding area. He diligently worked on many community projects. He was well known for his fundraising efforts and implementing plans bringing new businesses or entities to McClusky. His efforts included the following projects, boards and/or memberships; United Methodist Church, McClusky Medical Center including serving on its board for 46 years, McClusky Farmers Elevator, The Sheridan Memorial Home, Parkview Apartments, Sheridan Animal Hospital, Sheridan County Planning and Zoning Committee, Sheridan County 4-H, Sheridan County Economic Development, Sheridan County Senior Citizens, North Dakota Stockman's Association, American Legion, Lions Club and the Turtle Lake Weigh Station. He served as a Sheridan County Commissioner from 1997 – 2001.

He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Marsha, McClusky; son, Richard (Robin), McClusky; four grandchildren, Jessica, Jaiden, Michael, Elisa; two great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Karlesha; sister, Geraldine (Vernon) Schneider of Goodrich; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pearleen; ten siblings, Art (died in infancy), Alvin, Earl, Alice, Leona, Emil, Dettmer, Emanuel Jr., Martha, and Genevive.

Lloyd returned home to his heavenly Father on June 25, 2011. In his own words, "Life has been great and God bless."

Memorials are preferred to the McClusky City Cemetery, McClusky Senior Citizens, United Methodist Church or the McClusky Merchants.
