Lena Zerr, 100, Harvey, died Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey.  Funeral services will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 30, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. followed by prayer service at 7:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lena was born on December 26, 1922 near Esmond, ND to Constance and Rose (Gumeringer) Ripplinger.  She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Esmond High School in 1940.  Lena received her teaching degree from Minot State University in 1942 and started teaching in the Harvey area.  She married Victor Zerr on July 22, 1946 in Selz.  They farmed near Harvey.  They moved to Lansford where Victor taught school from 1959 until 1968.  They then returned to Harvey.  Lena moved to Mandan in 2015 to live with her daughter.  Lena entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey in January 2019.  Victor died on June 27, 2011.

Lena was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church and its altar society; Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, all of Harvey.  Lena enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her grandkids.

Lena is survived by three sons, Victor Jr. (Debbie) Zerr of Harvey, Mike Zerr of Cottage Grove, MN, Alton Zerr of Harvey; daughters, JoAnn Nutz of Mandan, Connie (Steve) Little of Ponca City, OK; 10 grandchildren; (18) great-grandchildren; (11) great-great-grandchildren.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joe, Mike, John, and William; sisters, Irene, Elizabeth, Helen, and Mary; daughter-in-law, Bonny Zerr; son-in-law, Sherwood Nutz, great-granddaughter, Alexis Hein Nutz.
